Heartland Institute of Financial Education is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides financial wellness education courses for businesses and other entities and their employees.  In addition, Heartland operates a FINRA recognized certification program for financial professionals who complete the training and pass the exam to become Certified Financial Educators or CFEd’s.  Heartland authorizes eligible CFEd’s to teach Heartland’s financial wellness education courses.

  1. Heartland is entering into a Pilot Program with an exclusive national membership organization that provides a forum for its corporate members to consider employee benefit solutions.  An important employee benefit that is currently on the radar of large corporate Human Resource Departments is financial education.  Corporate members include more than 1,300 companies with a median size of 7,000 employees.
  2. Heartland approached WealthWave to participate in this Pilot Program because WealthWave is in a unique position to help provide financial education by licensed professionals to corporate employees on a national basis. The Pilot Program will work as follows:

  • To be eligible to become a CFEd, you must have a life insurance license and  experience in the financial services industry or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency. You should also have experience teaching adults, which is part of what WealthWave professionals do every day for our teammates and clients.

  • The cost to obtain the CFEd credential is $1,295 to Heartland for the training course. Heartland offers different payment options.

  • The CFEd designation is approved by FINRA, so it can appear on your business cards and be used to help promote your services to businesses you may have or develop a relationship with.

  • Once you have your CFEd, or while you are working towards obtaining your CFEd, you will need to take Heartland’s training course on How to Become an Instructor if you want to participate in the Pilot Program.

  • Alan Gappinger, President and Founder of Heartland, will provide this training for WealthWave professionals on November 1-2 in Johns Creek, GA. The training will be all day that Friday and in the morning on Saturday.  Other dates for this course will be announced soon.

  • WealthWave professionals, who have completed the CFEd program and the How to Become an Instructor course and who want to participate in the Pilot Program, will need to join the Heartland Registry of CFEd instructors for an annual fee of $500.

  • CFEd WealthWave professionals who are part of the Heartland Registry will be matched with member corporations in their geographic region to provide classes for employees and one on one meetings with employees. We understand that an average class size is 15 employees and most employees sign up for one on one meetings.  Heartland does charge a $500 fee to the WealthWave professional who is teaching the class.

  • While only CFEd WealthWave professionals who are part of the Heartland Registry may teach a class, your teammates are eligible, under your supervision, to help with follow up and the one on one meetings with employees.

The training will be held 9:00am – 6:00pm (lunch on your own) on Friday and 8:30am – 11:30am on Saturday.
